WEEK THIRTEEN OF THE "BIG ADVENTURE"
Wow! We did so many cool things this week! Having Dillon here keeps us moving and active, which I love! We have taken the side by side for short rides just about every day. One day we found a big pile of bones. Pretty sure they were cow bones.
The saguaro here are few and far between, unlike Alamo Lake. The ones that are here though, are super healthy. They must get more moisture here. I think they are really cool looking. I got an awesome picture with the sun behind one and another with a peregrine falcon (I am pretty sure that's what it was) sitting on top! I may have National Geographic calling me soon. I'm totally ok with that. I'll keep you posted.

There are three lakes fairly close to us, Saguaro Lake, Canyon Lake and Roosevelt Lake. We really want to be back near water so we took two days to explore and see if we could find a good place to camp for a while. Unfortunately, we didn't. The lakes are beautiful in a desert kind of way and they are all situated in deep canyons. They are fed by the Salt River and Roosevelt is the biggest. And let me tell you, it is HUGE! It was really weird when we checked it out. It is the largest lake in Arizona and we went to check it out on a three day weekend. There was hardly anyone there! So weird. They only have one marina and it really isn't that big. If anyone reading this can enlighten me on the story as to why it isn't more popular, I would appreciate it!

While visiting Roosevelt Lake, I saw a couple of signs for
the Arizona Trail (click on blue for more info). It is an eight hundred mile, non-motorized, trail that runs all the way through Arizona. It begins in Mexico and ends in Utah. That would be quite the adventure and a number of people have completed it. As of July of 2024, 172 people have walked, ridden horses, or biked, the entire trail. Amazing!
On our way back from Roosevelt Lake, we stopped at this hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that I found on Google (it had really good reviews) in Miami, AZ. (Yes, that is really a place 😂) Holy cow, did we ever score! It was amazing food and super cold beer served with a frosted mugs. If you drove by this place and didn't know a thing about it, you would just keep on going. Let me just tell you, if you are every in Miami, don't pass this place by!
Guayo's El Rey
On our way to Canyon Lake we passed a "ghost town" that looked interesting. It is called
Goldfield Ghost Town and it was more of an attraction kind of place but super cool! We stopped on our way back "home" from the lake and had lunch and walked around. Lunch was fairly reasonable and pretty tasty but everything else was a littl spendy. Kind of a cool story behind the towns origins and the view is to die for with the Superstition Mountains soaring over you! Click on the highlighted blue words to learn more about this place...if ya want to.
On one of our rides, we came across a speed limit sign. Now mind you, we are camped on a dirt road in the desert....although, there is a mine and a feed lot at the end of this very long road. I just thought this sign was funny and it made me giggle. Why that speed? LOL!
Of course, Sage is over the moon to have her brother back. She loves to play and Dillon is more than happy to apease her.
Dillon's birthday was on Valentine's Day and we had a fun day celebrating him. We went to this cool little bar/restaurant that we had driven by multiple times, and each time we did, it was packed! It's called the The River Bottom and it boasts being a biker bar with live music and lots of fun! We hit it at a good time (I guess, I kind of like lots of bikers and loud music myself 😁) and had a yummy lunch. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the sun and each other.

Alright, here it comes! The absolute highlight of the week! Dillon and I were sitting outside with a fire in the fire pit just hanging out and talking. Gary was inside watching TV. I looked up and to the west and could not believe what I saw! I asked Dillon what the hell it was and we had no idea. We knew it was some kind of rocket, but who launched it? Well, you can probably guess, and whatever, but it was an awesome sight to behold, let me just tell you. I have never seen anything like it. In case you haven't figured it out, it was a Falcon 9 Rocket taking off with 21 Starlink satellites on board. Crazy!
Check out my video on my Facebook page here Falcon 9 launch. It's pretty damn cool, not kidding.
What a week! We have one more with Dillon, so should be a fun time! I hope all is well with you and yours and that you are happy. I'll talk at ya later 💓
